Artists for L.W.A.L.A Auction
Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

On Saturday night, May 31st, LWALA had its first “Artists for LWALA Auction” event at the Gallery Bar in NYC. It was a huge success, 20+ multi-talented artists contributed their pieces to help support L.W.A.L.A’s charitable efforts in Africa. A few of those artists included Ayelet Rand, Desi Sanchez, David Ter-Avanesyan, all great friends of mine. I was honored to also be one of the artists. You can view a full list of the artists and their bios here.

I’d like to give a personal special thanks to the wonderful LWALA team for letting me be a part of their team and for organizing this amazing event, their contributions will make an immense difference in the lives of others. To find out about their next event, please stay tuned at lwala.org

design:related logoThis site offers a great community for designers that want to get their work out to professionals in the industry or want to share their work with other designers. I signed up about two weeks ago after meeting the lovely Karen Horton, the co-founder of design:related. After her invitation to sign up, I immediately set up an account and was pleasantly surprised at how clean and easy their interface was to use, adding portfolio pieces was a breeze and in minutes I added all of my friends that were already members to my network.

The site has a lot of great features, some of the few that I’ve used and really enjoy are: being able to mark other members as influential, integrating your flickr photo feed, maintaining a blog of inspirations, posting news entries that get pulled onto the homepage, and being able to sort content on the site by most influential, most viewed, newest, just added or simply via keyword tags.

If you’re a design professional or student, I definitely recommend you sign up to this wonderful site. It’s a great way to network with other talented designers, find inspiration and get feedback on your work. And once you sign up, don’t forget to add me to your network: http://www.designrelated.com

Michael Ian Kaye Presentation at AIGA
Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Last night Michael Ian Kaye presented at AIGA in NY. It was an amazing evening of who’s who in the world of book jacket publishing. Carin Goldberg kicked off the evening with a haiku about Michael. Then Michael began his presentation which was composed of 10 main topics which had actually been selected via a poll on his website. He told many insightful stories about his work. During the presentation he expressed how he dislikes titles, for example giving himself the title of Creative Director, Advertising Guy or Graphic Designer, among others, because he simply considers himself a Visual Problem Solver.

Midway through the presentation there was an “Oprah” moment, while he was showcasing one of his latest book designs for the School of Visual Arts, he asked us to look under our chairs. Everyone in the audience received the book courtesy of SVA. In the end, we were all inspired by Kaye’s love, excellence and commitment to graphic design. He then invited everyone in the audience for drinks at the Black Door, his treat.
